Norfolk's U17s Boys squash team found the going tough in the second stage of the Inter Counties English Squash tournament at Hinckley against Leicestershire and Worcestershire on Sunday February 3.
Having come through a very hard encounter against a very strong Cambridgeshire side in the first round, the Norfolk U17 boys hoped to find themselves more competitive against Worcestershire and Leicestershire.
They came close against Worcestershire in the first match, building on a solid 3-0 win from Harry Taylor (3rd string) and a heroic performance by Jack Bell (at 4th) who fought off four match points in his fourth game before going on to win 3-2 in the fifth. With Ben Rawsthorne (1st) and Luke Perry (5th) unable to overcome their opponents, Joe Bolt (2nd) gave it everything but lost 3-1 in a close fought fourth game leaving the match score at 16-7.
Leicestershire had defeated Worcestershire in the first tie (14-7) and were just too strong for the Norfolk boys cleaning up the match 20-0. Tom Morris travelled as a sixth string reserve and played very well, defeating both of his opponents comprehensively 3-0.
Final result: 1 Leicestershire 34, 2 Worcestershire 23, 3 Norfolk 7
