Wymondham students top junior squash league

Round Two of the new Norfolk Junior Squash League saw Division 2 matches involving Beccles, Wymondham High School and EAT&SC, and Division 3 matches with Fakenham, Bannatynes and EAT&SC taking part.

Wymondham High School started their league programme with a tight 3-1 win over EAT&SC. With Hannah Morris at No.1 for the High School providing the only 3-0 win, Gary O'Brian and Josh Smith provided the support by coming through close 3-1 wins to give a final match score of Wymondham HS 14 EAT&SC 5, with Hugh Williams winning for the Norwich club.

The students continued their good start against home side Beccles, with Hannah and Gary winning again and all of their side scoring points. Beccles however gained 2 wins to produce a final match score of Wymondham HS 11 Beccles 9.

In the final match Beccles proved too strong for EAT&SC with Robert Mattocks gaining his first win and with both Daniel Sanderson and Jonathan Wright winning both their matches. Alex Williams took the win for EAT&SC. Final result Beccles 14 EAT&SC 3.

In the Division 3 matches at Fakenham, the home side put out another strong side hoping to build on their first round wins. Jake Rolph from Bannatynes played superbly to take 2 games from Fakenham first string Sam Lanham, but this was their only success with the other Fakenham players winning comfortably. Final result Fakenham 16 Bannatynes 2.

The story was similar for Bannatynes in their second match against EAT&SC where Jake was not able to gain a game against Harry Dye, and Isaac Rolph, Jake Bond and Jessica Arneil were unable to trouble William Henden, Jamie Foyster and Samuel Henden. Final Result EAT&SC 16 Bannatynes 0.

In the eagerly awaited third match EAT&SC were seeking revenge. Jamie Foyster earned a hard fought 5/9, 9/0, 9/2, 8/9, 9/4 win over Jamie Tuck but the Henden brothers were unable to trouble their stronger opponents to give Fakenham a 2-1 advantage. In the deciding match Harry Dye moved into a 2-1 lead for the Norwich side and the match looked set for a draw. Sam Lanham however, had other ideas and his greater consistency enabled him to recover to claim the match 3-2 and give a final result of Fakenham 15 EAT&SC 5.
