A free six-week introduction to squash course is being offered to junior players at the Pulse8 Leisure Centre at the College of West Anglia in King's Lynn with the backing of Norfolk Junior Squash.
The course, which is being run by England Squash Level 2 qualified coach Andrew Trim, is intended to introduce the sport to youngsters between the ages of 7-17 and is being funded by Norfolk Junior Squash.
Andrew said: “The course will focus on the six main shots of squash i.e. drive, volley, serve / return, drop, boast and lob and also involve the basic rules and health and safety on court. The main rule of the course is to have fun and it is my long term goal to have many juniors playing regular squash to a good standard in the King's Lynn area.”
The course will run on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am and also 10am to 11am, starting on February 16th, for six seeks. The course is free and racquets are provided.
“This is planned to be the first of many junior coaching courses we run in the King's Lynn area. Norfolk Junior Squash have been very generous in funding this initial course with the hope that it will encourage a new generation of local squash players. Places are limited, so it will be first come first served.” Andrew said. “Further courses are being organised in cooperation with Nicky Green, a King's Lynn–based level 2 squash coach, at Lynnsport, Hunstanton, Sedgeford and Downham Market. These courses and the players we produce through them will provide the boost that King's Lynn is currently lacking in terms of junior players and is part of Norfolk Junior Squash King's Lynn squash development proposals.”
Andrew, who is based in Norwich, is also currently running a junior squash club at Long Stratton Leisure Centre on Thursdays from 4-5pm. Andrew is also involved in many of the boys and girls county team training sessions which have started to happen on a monthly basis for the various age groups. Private coaching is also available for juniors and adults, beginners to county level at £12.50 for a 40-minute lesson, excluding the cost of the court.
