A first-ever Norfolk Junior Squash League is to launch in January 2008 with 12 teams in three divisions.
Teams have been entered from squash clubs in Fakenham, Diss, Beccles, Bannatynes and EAT&SC in Norwich and Wymondham High School.
The league is open to team entries from any squash, sports or health club, leisure centre, company, school, or college. It is designed for juniors of all standards.
Teams of four players plus two reserves will play fixtures against two different clubs from 1pm on the first Sunday in the month, between January and June.
Players aged under 19 on September 1, 2007, are eligible and fixtures will involve three teams so each player will play two best-of-five-game matches.
“If any other junior club or school teams would like to engage in any junior team friendly matches or future league fixtures, please contact the league organisers, we would welcome your participation,” said league secretary Bruce Bushell.
League assistant Tony Henden said: “The league is being launched primarily to provide additional competitive match opportunities for all Norfolk's junior squash players, bringing together juniors of similar ability in a friendly, social, team atmosphere.
“It will run alongside the junior Grand Prix series which provides individuals with tournament experience, and will also give talented players the opportunity to be considered for invitation to county training squads.”
