

Winners from Norwich, Broadland and King's Lynn emerged from the 40 plus players competing in the latest Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix, held at Broadland Sports Club at Fleggburgh on Sunday January 17.
In the top Group 1, Jordan Creed (Bannatynes) claimed another group win with an all-action display over Adam Sinkins (Fakenham) who finished in a very creditable second place after two good earlier wins. Tom Morris (EATSC) fought back from a set down to secure third place in a tough battle with the ever-improving Alex Oliver (Cromer/Greshams). Alex Williams (EATSC) claimed fifth spot after beating home club player Jake Sallis (Broadland), who finished in a best-ever sixth. Fellow Broadland player Chris Cook, also claimed a best-ever finish in seventh, beating off Jamie Foyster (EATSC) into eighth.

In Group 2, hot favorite Nathan Taylor eased through to the final and met the fast improving Jake Bond, who had also progressed without dropping a game. The group final did not disappoint with each player giving their all over five pulsating games. Nathan however, justified his no.1 seeding with a great 11/8, 8/11, 11/8, 9/11, 11/8 win. Lasith Ranasinghe made a welcome return to the Junior Squash Grand Prix Series, and fought out an equally close first round match with Alex Coburn before also coming out on top 3-2. Alex went on to gain his first win with an even closer encounter, when snatching victory over Andrew Black 12-10 in yet another five game match.
Group 2 Final Placings: 1. Nathan Taylor (EATSC), 2. Jake Bond (Bannatynes), 3. Lasith Ranasinghe (B Broom), 4. Olly Bickley (Harleston), 5. Sam Lanham (Fakenham), 6. Alex Coburn (B Broom), 7. Will Henden (Broadland), 8. Andrew Black (Fakenham).
Another EATSC player, Milo Butler, was seeded to win group 3, and progressed through to the final against newcomer Luke Cox (Broadland). Luke, who was swapping his badminton racket for a squash racket, had earlier defeated Milo's brother Izaak 3-0, and Robby Coates in a long five-game match, but had plenty of energy left and proved too strong for Milo in winning 3-0. Duncan Butler and Drew Butchart also showed improved performance in winning 2 out of 3 games each, to finish third and fifth respectively.
Group 3 Final Placings: 1. Luke Cox (Broadland), 2. Milo Butler (EATSC), 3. Duncan Butler (Fakenham), 4. Robby Coates (EATSC), 5. Drew Butchart (Fakenham), 6. Izaak Butler (EATSC), 7. Sam Henden (Broadland), 8. David Gorrod (Bannatynes).
In Group 4, Broadland new boys Daniel Timms and Sam Kruber found the experience of the other players significant as they were unable to gain a win until playing each other for the minor group positions. Sam winning this particular club duel 3-1. At the top of the group Martin Jolly gained a deserved group win, but not without a scare from the other fast improving Bond brother, Liam.
Group 4 Final Placings: 1. Martin Jolly (King's Lynn), 2. Liam Bond (Bannatynes), 3. Prakrit Raj Kumar (EATSC), 4. Sam Crafer (Reepham) 5. Sam Kruber (Broadland), 6. Daniel Timms (Broadland).
Group 5 saw another recent Grand Prix newcomer Jesse Baker gain his first group win with 3 comfortable wins, and will be given some tougher matches when next competing. Young Sam McCluskey from Harleston also continues to show promise and is one to watch for the future.

Charlie Simpson (EATSC) gained a maximum 60 Points in group 6 to gain his second group win, and two more Broadland Sports newcomers, Ryan Evans and Oliver Millar, enjoyed their first tournament experience against players from across the county. Joe Henden swapped his tennis racket for a squash racket to record 3 wins, and Claire Jolly deserves special mention for not only finishing runner-up, but for volunteering to mark many of the group's matches.
Group 6 Final Placings: 1. Charlie Simpson (EATSC) 60 Pts, 2. Claire Jolly King's Lynn) 53 Pts, 3. James Peterson (EATSC) 51 Pts, 4. Joe Henden (Broadland) 47 Pts, 5. Chloe Peterson (EATSC) 38 Pts, 6. Ryan Evans (Broadland) 30 Pts, 7. Ollie Millar (Broadland) 12Pts.
Tournament director, Tony Henden, said: “Overall the tournament was played in a fantastic atmosphere, with all of the players being immaculately behaved during their matches. Special mention should go to Jamie Foyster and Adam Sinkins for their outstanding sportsmanship and helpful attitude.”
