

The first Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix of 2008 saw almost 50 youngsters compete at the East Anglia Tennis and Squash Club in Norwich.
In Group 1, Bradley Garrett continued his long winning run by again beating Jack Bell (Diss) 3-1 in another entertaining final. Seb Denby finished third after beating Alex Foster in a titanic five-set battle.

In Group 2, top seeds Thomas Belshaw (East Anglia) and Emily Wilford (Framlingham College), made the final which Thomas won 5/9,10/8,9/1,9/5. Sophie Hodges (Reepham) had earlier produced the performance of the group only going down 9/7,8/10,10/8 to Emily.

In Group 3, Daniel Roberts (Barnham Broom) produced three fighting performances to defeat Lasith Ranasinghe 2-1, Hugh Williams 2-1, and Jonathan Warrin 9/5,5/9,10/8,10/8 for a well deserved first group win.

Group 4 saw continued progress from Andrew Black (Fakenham) who beat clubmate Sam Lanham to win the group. William Henden (EA) performed well to take third place from Jamie Foyster (EA).

In Group 5, newcomer Josh Brownlow from Harleston overcame clubmate Alex Green and then Jamie Tuck (Fakenham) 9/6,4/9,10/9 to grab a group win on his debut. With Alex going on to beat Jake Bond for third place, the new juniors from Harleston have made an immediate impact in the Grand Prix Circuit.
Group 5 Final Placings 1. Josh Brownlow, 2. Jamie Tuck, 3. Alex Green, 4. Jake Bond, 5. Verity Kelly, 6. Joanne Ho, 7. Izaac Butler, 8. Liam Bond.
Five of the six players in Group 6 were new to the Grand Prix. George Spicer (EA) won the group, with Jack Andrews (Harleston) claiming second spot by the narrowest of margins, 9/5,6/9,10/9 over the improving Reece Lacaille (EA).

County coach and event organizer David Youngs said: “With continuing increased entry numbers into the Junior Grand Prix Tournaments, thanks to Tony Henden who puts so much time and effort promoting these events across the county to ensure their continuing success. GP organizer Tony Henden said: “Another eight first time entries joined in grand prix circuit, swelling the potential entry numbers to an impressive 60. Unfortunately with the majority of entries coming in after the deadline, tournament organizers were forced to work overtime to squeeze almost 50 of them into Sunday's draw. To guarantee your entry into the draw, please get your entry in before the deadline.”
