A six-week introduction to squash course offered to junior players at the revamped Harleston BWell Health Club has been acclaimed as a great success.
With the backing of Norfolk Junior Squash, England Squash qualified coach Ben Jackson, introduced the sport to a large group of youngsters between the ages of 7-17 and every single one of them has decided to continue with the sport. Plans are already being formed for junior leagues, teams and tournament squash.
Several of the youngsters, showing great enthusiasm and improvement, have already taken part in a Norfolk Junior Squash organised Grand Prix tournament.
Ben said: “It has been an absolute pleasure arranging and taking this junior course. I am very happy that NJS were willing to help and I believe we will be able to push on from this. I would like to make Harleston one of the strongest squash clubs in the county, for junior players.”
Links with local schools are also starting to take shape and Brockdish Primary have arranged to bring their children down during PE lessons for a three-week introductory course. It is hoped that this can be developed with other schools in the Harleston area.
Tony Henden from NJS said: “The introduction of junior squash at Harleston has been an unqualified success. Ben Jackson, Harleston Squash Club, and BWell have all been a pleasure to support, and we wish them every success in the future. If there are any other clubs around the county interested in introducing junior squash, we would be happy to consider supporting them as we have at Harleston.”
If anybody would be interested in joining in on a Saturday morning or would like more information on coaching in general, please contact Ben Jackson on 01986 788490 or at jacksonsquash@hotmail.co.uk.
