Following the successful launch of a new Norfolk Junior Squash League earlier this year, organizers are hoping to expand the league for its second season starting later this year.
Last season 12 teams competed in three leagues with Heywood Sports, Diss, winning Division 1. League organisers are now hoping to expand with the introduction of a fourth division and have issued entry forms.
League secretary Bruce Bushell said: “The new Division 4 will be specifically for junior squash beginners and inexperienced young players, and will hopefully guarantee that all players can participate against other teams of similar ability. The entry fee has also been reduced to just £10 per team to encourage participation, and is ideally suited to any Squash Club with Junior members, and Primary or High Schools teams who have players with some squash experience or enthusiasm. College and Company based Teams are also welcome, providing all players are under age 19 on September 1, 2008, and they can supply venue details for home fixtures.”
Teams of four players plus two reserves will play fixtures against two different clubs from 1pm on the first Sunday in the month.
League assistant Tony Henden said: “The league is primarily to provide additional competitive match opportunities for all Norfolk's junior squash players, bringing together juniors of similar ability in a friendly, social, team atmosphere.
“It will run alongside the junior Grand Prix series which provides individuals with tournament experience, and will also give talented players the opportunity to be considered for invitation to county training squads.”
All the Divisional winners and participants from the first season will have the opportunity to get together on Saturday September 27 for the League awards presentation and barbecue from 4pm at EAT&SC.
