Alex ends Bradley's long winning run in blistering final

The continued growth in Norfolk Junior Squash was further demonstrated at the weekend (Sunday March 16) with the Grand Prix Circuit visiting Bannatynes in Thorpe, Norwich for the first time, and also Oasis in Thorpe, hosting the event after several years absence.

Some 52 competitors, aged between 7 and 18, were split between the two venues, and produced some stunning matches and outstanding group competitions.

In Group 1 Bradley Garrett's long winning run was finally broken by Alex Foster (Cromer) in a blistering final match, 11/9 in the fifth game. Jack Bell (Diss) had to settle for third with a slightly more comfortable 3-0 win over Seb Denby (Framlingham College), whilst Luke Perry (EA) and Alex Oliver (Greshams) claimed 5th and 7th respectively over Tom Morris (EA) and Jordan Creed (Bannatynes) in keenly contested matches.
Final Positions: 1. Alex Foster, 2. Bradley Garrett, 3. Jack Bell, 4. Seb Denby, 5. Luke Perry, 6. Tom Morris, 7. Alex Olive,r 8. Jordan Creed.

Group 2 contained two newcomers to the Grand Prix and both Daven Roff (Oasis) and Laurie Lacey-Hastings (BB/UEA) acquitted themselves well. However, following narrow wins against Laurie and Robert Mattocks (Beccles), Daniel Compton (Lowestoft) in only his second Grand Prix, beat Emily Wilford (Harleston) 3-1 for an excellent first group win.

Jason Kent (Beccles) suffered an accidental blow to the face after winning his first match against Chris Davis (BB), and will hopefully make a prompt recovery in preparation for next month's Grand Prix at Fakenham and Reepham.  Daniel Roberts (BB) produced a great come back from 2-0 down to beat Connor Doy (F) for 6th place, whilst Chris Davis beat Sam Lanham for 7th.

An astonishing total of 53 games and 1,024 points were contested in this group alone with Lasith Ranasinghe (BB) taking a deserved group win over club mate Alex Coburn.
