

Winners from right across Norfolk emerged from the latest Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix tournament held at Oasis and Bannatynes in Norwich, which saw 45 competitors.
Group 1, played at Bannatynes saw Jordan Creed impressively maintain his 100% winning record in Grand Prix tournaments this season. Alex Williams and Adam Sinkins continue to improve in claiming 2nd and 3rd places respectively, and should both be aiming to claim a first tournament in the near future. Jake Bond gained a best ever finish and it was great to see the Hodges girls from Reepham competing in the top group.

This feast of junior squash continued in Group 2 where Josh Brownlow confirmed his return from injury with an entertaining and hard fought 11/9, 7/11, 11/5, 16/14 win over Sam Lanham. Josh and Sam, together with Lasith Ranasinghe should be looking towards competing in the top group soon.

Martin Jolly from King’s Lynn gained his third group win of the season but not before producing a great comeback against Drew Butchart (Fakenham) 5/11, 6/11, 11/8, 11/8, 11/8 to claim his Group 3 win. Jesse Baker, Liam Bond and Prakrit Raj Kumar gained great experience against older players and should be pleased with their efforts.

Group 4 contained six girls including a debut for Claire Edwards from Bannatynes, and produced the other great comeback fight of the day. With Liam Mooney leading Ailish Reeson 2-0 it looked as though the group would go to Kieran Dodman on games won. However, Ailish had other ideas, and recovered to beat Liam 9/11, 7/11,11/7,11/7,12/10 to win the group. Claire went on to record two close wins over Katie Cox (3-1) and Jessica Arneil (3-2) to finish 7th overall.
Group 4 Final Placings: 1. Ailish Reson (Barnham Broom), 2. Kieran Dodman, 3. Liam Mooney, 4. Bonnie Butler, 5. Lydia Brownlow, 6. Bradley Nobbs, 7. Claire Edwards, 8. Katie Cox, 9. Jessica Arneil.
Group 5 contained first time participants James and Roberta Longley from Broadland Sports Club, who along with clubmates Ryan Evans and Oliver Millar enjoyed their first experience of a glass-backed court at Oasis, Norwich. Toby Bennett (Bannatynes), Charlie Simpson (EAT&SC) and Joshua Hall (Oasis) came within a whisker of tying for the group trophy having gained three match wins each. However, this went to Toby by virtue of one less game conceded. Claire Jolly finished strongly in fourth, and the four youngsters from Broadland played some great close matches against each other for the final positions.
