Norfolk Squash Development Coach, Nicky Green, has delivered a five-week Mini Squash coaching programme within various schools in the Cromer area introducing dozens of youngsters to the sport.
Nicky worked with year 5 and 6 classes teaching them the fundamental skills of squash. The children were taught basic ball & racket skills as well as having the use of a portable Mini Squash Wall used for stroke practice, without having to travel to an actual squash court.
At the end of March, Cromer Junior School took part in an England Squash & Racketball Mini Squash Schools Festival at Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club. The children were divided into teams and took part in activities including ball skills, fitness work and experienced playing squash on a court for the first time.
A great time was had by all and final placings from the festival were as follows: 1st Squashers 111pts, 2nd Fire Shooters 99pts, 3rd The Dodgers 94pts and 4th Bob United 85pts.
Well done to all the children and many thanks to Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club for the use of their courts.
As a follow on to the Mini Squash school programme, Nicky Green along with Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club, held a number of junior squash coaching sessions during the Easter holiday and will be starting a Junior Squash Club on Friday afternoons.
