Two Norfolk squash clubs have just completed their England Squash Club Charter and Sport England Clubmark awards.
Rossi's Leisure and Harleston squash club join the growing list of Charter Clubs in the area. Both have made great efforts to increase the amount of activity at their clubs and are looking to further develop their membership and junior sections by working with England Squash in the future. Key contacts from each club are shown below receiving their various awards from their local Area Squash Manager.
Rossi's Leisure in North Walsham has recently added the England Squash Bronze Club Charter Award to its armoury. The club has been keen to develop the provision of squash at the centre after seeing the potential for growth of the sport in the local area. The club has three courts and their squash Leagues are a great way to meet other club members, enjoy a competitive game and a social drink afterwards.
For players looking for a more serious game of Squash, Rossi's have a competitive squash team that plays against other clubs in the local league. Club coaches Lisa Kingsmill and sister, Sara Willard offer group and individual sessions to adults and juniors throughout the year and are hoping to set up a Mini Squash programme with a number of local junior schools in the very near future on the back of receiving their Club Charter accreditation.
The club were supported in the Summer by Norfolk Development Coach, Nicky Green who ran some summer coaching sessions and assisted with the centre's popular ‘Rossi's Rookies' coaching and activity programme.

Harleston Squash Club is an active club based at the local ‘2 court' community leisure centre and has just been awarded its England Squash Silver Club Charter Award. In the past 18 months it has undergone an impressive phase of development focusing on growing their junior section.
Level 2 coach Ben Jackson has been at the helm of the development and been largely responsible for fostering a great atmosphere and camaraderie between the junior players. Harleston recently held one of the county's popular junior Grand Prix events and have been chosen to host the first event of this season, on October 19. They also had a busy programme of summer coaching run primarily by England Squash's Norfolk Development Coach, Nicky Green which gave the current club players an opportunity to experience a different type of coaching and also introduced a couple of new players to the club.
Another significant development has been the introduction of Racketball to the club with the aim of offering a different type of activity to attract a new genre of player and provide competitive opportunities for beginners, older players or those coming back from injuries.
Ben's work on the coaching side has been ably supported by a very proactive committee that are keen to see Harleston grow into one of the most proactive clubs in the county. Numerous well organised squash and social activities are planned for the coming season and the new Club Charter Award will hopefully serve to support the growth of the club by attracting new members.
