Fakenham Squash Club hosted the latest Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix on Sunday 20th May, where the host Club were well represented with 12 out of the 27 players competing. In Group 1 they filled 3 of the top 4 places, and also had newcomer Evan Lagrange competing for the lower positions. The improving Alex Hagag beat top seed Liam Bond 3-1 to win the group to give the home Club their first group win of the day. Closest match in the group was Jasmine Thirst’s gutsy 3-2 win over Harry Cox, recovering from 0-2 down to enable her to finish a very good fifth. Group 1 Final Positions. Alex Hagag (Fak), 2. For the first time ever a Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix included its first all girls group, with 2 girls each from King’s Lynn, Rossis and Broadland playing against each other. The Harris twins started as favourites following their impressive debuts last month at Harleston, whilst the girls from King’s Lynn were playing their first Grand Prix Tournament for over a year. The on form Connie Harris eased trough her first round matches to make the final, as did the improving Millie Cunningham in the bottom half of the draw. Elsewhere Mia Chase showed tremendous commitment with several full length dives during her matches, and was rewarded with a very tight 7/11, 12/10, 11/9 win over Freya Botting in the most competitive match in the group. Connie went on to gain the group win against Millie to make it 2 wins from 2 tournaments. Group 2 Final Positions 1.Connie Harris (Rossis), 2. Millie Cunningham (Broadland), 3. Mia Chase (Broadland), 4. Isobelle Harris (Rossis), 5. Rosie Green ( KL), 6. Freya Botting (KL) Group 3 contained 2 more girls, making it 10 altogether to confirm the healthy interest in girls squash in Norfolk. The young boys from Fakenham however, dominated this particular group taking the top 5 positions. Ben Abram’s second round comeback from 0-2 down against Thomas Howlett being the pick of the matches. Group 3 Final Positions 1.Ben Flint (Fak), 2. Ben Abram (Fak), 3. Charlie Smith (Fak), 4. Thomas Howlett (Fak), 5. Tom Abram (Fak), 6. Chaman Uppal (EATSC), 7. Rebecca Henden (Broadland), 8, Euan Fryer (Broadland). Group 4 included another clutch of Fakenham boys all playing in their first tournament. George Rivett gained the narrowest of wins in his first match 15/13,11/9 over the young Ava Fox, before going on to beat his club mates to win the group, and give Fakenham 3 group wins out of 4. Ava Fox showed further great promise winning her final 2 matches 3-1 to take fourth place. Group 4 Final Positions 1. George Rivett (Fak), 2. Thomas Smith (Fak), 3. Max Ewing (Fak), 4. Ava Fox (EATSC),5, William Mack (Broadland), 6. James Walsh (Broadland) The next Grand Prix will take place during the afternoon of Saturday 16th June at EATSC, Norwich.
